AK White has been an oral surgery office manager, an aesthetician, a dressage rider, a gardener, a music lover, and an animal welfare advocate. She writes women's fiction spiced with romance and occasionally magic. She lives in the Kootenays in British Columbia with her London-born husband and snuggly rescue cat. When she's not wrangling weeds from the veg patch, she can be found sipping a locally brewed hazy IPA on the deck. ...more

If it does happen, I will put the manuscript aside for a few weeks and just 'think' about the problem; for me that typically means a plot issue so I think my way through the blockage and once I have found a resolution, I resume writing. If this does not work, I will turn to another story that I'm working on and move ahead with it until I get the urge to return to the original work. If too much time is elapsing and I can feel myself becoming disconnected from the characters in my story, I will return to writing but at a different place in the story; start a new scene farther into the plot. Later, I go back and sew the two sections together.(less)

I also enjoy the solitary nature of developing characters; living quietly in my head they become my 'friends'. I'd find myself saying, "That's something Alexi would do," having become so attached to my protagonist that I knew her every thought, mood, and action. These 'friends' are mine alone until the publishing date when it became my significant pleasure to usher them out the door to greet the readers. (less)

Learning by doing...

Have you ever started researching a book or a project only to find yourself down a rabbit hole of new exciting ideas? Well, that just happened to me. While learning all I could about essences for my next book, I fell in love with creating scents from essential oils. The process is engrossing, a little addictive, a lot expensive, but completely rewarding. And now, I can write with much more precisi Read more of this blog post »

Evocative and interesting but bothered by the constant head hopping. A very long denouement and strange POV for the ending.

“Oh, sweet cherry tree-
how lovely your blossoms are.
Spring brings joy to life.”
A.K. White

“A weeping grey sky
descends on my umbrella-
Bright daffodils dance.”
A.K. White, No Reason To Stay

“The wise crow knows
I'm a child of the fall.
Copper and brass, gusty wind blows.
Vivid, cloudless skies, watch shivering naked trees stand tall.
Hope, sweet and eager, does rise
from rust-soaked vistas to shining eyes.
Here, to forever, my beating heart goes;
something the old crow already knows.”
