Since Pernille Ripp was a child growing up in Denmark, she knew she wanted to work with kids. She has loved being a 4th, 5th, and then 7th-grade teacher in the American public school system, as well as a literacy coach for adults. In her co-created teaching spaces, students’ identities are at the center of the explorations that they do, as well as considering how to fight for change.

Recently, Pernille moved home to Denmark where she is expanding her knowledge about children’s development and needs through her work in early childhood education.

So do you only read/post books for students for your reading goal? I read a lot of books for my students but realized I read very few books for pleasure that weren't related to school. So I started reading adult books to fill in that gap in my reading. Historical fiction, Mystery-Crime-Thrillers, Sci-Fi, etc. But I am worried that they may not be appropriate to post at school. Dilemma.

The Thinking Classroom in ELA

Next week, in my 3rd grade Danish class, we’re starting something new — or maybe something old, just done differently.

We’re bringing the Thinking Classroom to our literacy work. I have seen the excitement from it in math, which made me wonder; how can we model the same concept but within ELA (or DLA in my case ).
