Since Pernille Ripp was a child growing up in Denmark, she knew she wanted to work with kids. She has loved being a 4th, 5th, and then 7th-grade teacher in the American public school system, as well as a literacy coach for adults. In her co-created teaching spaces, students’ identities are at the center of the explorations that they do, as well as considering how to fight for change.

Recently, Pernille moved home to Denmark where she is expanding her knowledge about children’s development and needs through her work in early childhood education.

So do you only read/post books for students for your reading goal? I read a lot of books for my students but realized I read very few books for pleasure that weren't related to school. So I started reading adult books to fill in that gap in my reading. Historical fiction, Mystery-Crime-Thrillers, Sci-Fi, etc. But I am worried that they may not be appropriate to post at school. Dilemma.

10 Ways to Begin Counteracting the Rewiring of Our Students’ Brains

He tells me he is bored.

As if that is the only reason I need in order to understand why being part of the learning is not the priority. An honest answer, but also one wrapped up in so many questions.

What does boredom mean to you? I hear myself say that this is school, it cannot compete with a screen and it was never meant to. That school will be boring sometimes.

And yet I cringe at my own words. H
