But really if I look back at what I did wrong and what I did right when I published my first book.. Really, you must get your support network in place. By this I mean you need a host of things: a good editor, a good book cover, a website or blog (preferably both), twitter, Facebook page for your books or author persona and any other social media accounts, like google+, tumblr, instagram, that you can. Have your next book ready to launch at an opportune time, don't drag it out like I did. It's all about getting your name and your books out there, on the web and keep them there. There are so many great writers that you need to do something different to get noticed- I'm sure there's many authors out there who will agree. Then there's marketing and advertising, the list goes on! I know I'm quite fortunate, in my wife's words I "just write", she does the book covers, book trailers, kindle & createspace formatting, set up the website and blog (luckily she has a degree in art and design), then she's learned about marketing and advertising along the way - and is still learning. We're both still learning, at the end of the day keep writing, that is the most important thing and have the confidence to publish it, just proof read it to death and have it edited first! There are loads of resources for writers, I started with reading The Creative Penn blog/website to get Discovery of the Saiph out, but I've also been trying to improve my writing by listening to reader reviews and seeing what they want. I want to write full time and I need my readers to do that, much as I want to write for me, I also have to write for them - don't get me wrong I love it! I just wish I'd started a few years ago!(less)
