It's set on the Altamaha River in Georgia, very close to where I grew up. The Altamaha -- aka the "Amazon of the South" -- is the largest undammed river in the eastern United States. The Nature Conservancy has named it one of the 75 "Last Great Places" on Earth, and it even has its own sea monster ;)(less)

Pub Day: REDNECKS Softcover!

I’m thrilled to announce that today is the publication day of the Rednecks softcover — woot! My publisher designed this new cover for the paperback, which I truly love.

I’m usually a paperback reader myself, and I know some of you are, too. If you’re interested in getting a copy, you can order from your local indie bookstore or one of the options on my publishers website: us.macmillan.com/books

Quotes by Taylor Brown  (?)

“It wasn’t dying that she feared, it was dying bad: leaving her grandboy alone in the world, unprotected, his wounds unhealed. Death, which walked ever through these mountains, knew she would not go down easy.”
Taylor Brown, Gods of Howl Mountain

“You like to think that people, in general, and I mean on the scale of generations, are learning from their mistakes, getting better. But with what all I seen, I don't know if I could believe that.”
Taylor Brown, Fallen Land

“Christ's father let him die on that cross. I understand why he done it. But Christ never had no granny like me.”
Taylor Brown, Gods of Howl Mountain

Topics Mentioning This Author

“You like to think that people, in general, and I mean on the scale of generations, are learning from their mistakes, getting better. But with what all I seen, I don't know if I could believe that.”
Taylor Brown, Fallen Land

“You die down there, you better hope I live a real long time. Because that's all the goddamn peace you're gonna get.”
Taylor Brown, Fallen Land

“The difference between stupid and intelligent people – and this is true whether or not they are well-educated – is that intelligent people can handle subtlety. ”
Neal Stephenson, The Diamond Age: Or, a Young Lady's Illustrated Primer

“Ninety-nine percent of everything that goes on in most Christian churches has nothing whatsoever to do with the actual religion. Intelligent people all notice this sooner or later, and they conclude that the entire one hundred percent is bullshit, which is why atheism is connected with being intelligent in people's minds.”
Neal Stephenson, Snow Crash

“Sometimes, when I'm falling asleep, I think of breaking the latches on every lion and tiger cage in the world. Those cats streaming like fire and lightning into the night. Maybe, if we were forced to feel like prey again, like animals, we'd have a little more respect for the rest of the creatures we share this rock with.”
Taylor Brown, Pride of Eden
