Rodica Bretin was born and raised in Brasov, a town in Transilvania, not far from Dracula Castle. She began writing her debut novel at an early age, after obsessing over books about the mysteries of the world. When she’s not writing, she can be found wandering through the dense forests around his hometown. Currently, she lives and writes in a house next to an old fortress, with her cat Lorena.
She published her first book, „Holographic Effect“, in 1985. Since then, she has published over thirty novels and volumes of stories, on some favorite topics: time travel paranormal, medieval times, the Viking Age, fantasy, and science-fiction.
Rodica Bretin is a member of the Romanian Writers Union (USR) since 1991.

Cărţi din domeniul frontierelor cunoaşterii: Dosarele Imposibilului (2003); Tunelul Timpului (2003); Poarta Vrăjitoarelor (2004; 2015); Poltergeist – atacatori invizibili (2005); Misterul Lumilor Paralele (2006); Naufragiaţi în Timp (2006); Călătorii în timp şi lumi paralele (2015); Războinicii Nordului (2015); Cronicile Imposibilului (2015); Ecouri din tenebre (2016); Ultima frontieră (2021).
A înfiinţat împreună cu soţul ei, scriitorul Dan Apostol, Editura Baricada şi a coeditat seria Antares, patru antologii dedicate literaturii fantastice şi culturii enciclopedice (vechi civilizaţii, fenomene neelucidate, cryptozoologie); a realizat antologiile de literatură clasică fantastică Cronici din lumi interzise (2003) şi Vânătorii Lumii de Dincolo (2006).
A publicat proză, eseuri, articole în reviste literare din România (Viaţa românească, Convorbiri literare, Opt motive, Curtea de la Argeş, Egophobia, Libris, Utopiqa, Spaţii culturale, Helion, Galaxia 42, Hyperion, Vatra Veche, Famost) şi din străinătate: The Historian (Marea Britanie), Antares (Franţa), Cirsova Magazine, Gracious Light, Four Star Stories (SUA) Teoria Omicron (Ecuador).
A primit numeroase premii, printre care:
„Premiul pentru cea mai bună proză străină“ la Festivalul Internaţional al Artei Fantastice de la Annecy (Franţa), pentru nuvela Negura.
„Premiul Volaverunt“ (Premiul pentru proză fantastică) la Festivalul din Valencia (Spania), pentru nuvela Conquistadorul.
„Premiul pentru cel mai bun roman străin“ al Fantasia Art Association, pentru romanul Fecioara de Fier, publicat în serial de revista The Historian din Truro (Cornwall – Marea Britanie).
„Premiul COLIN, categoria volum de proză scurtă fantastică“ pentru Cetatea fără trecut.
„Premiul OPERA OMNIA“, decernat la cea de-a 40-a ediţie a Convenţiei Naţionale a Cluburilor şi Autorilor de science-fiction din România, Timişoara 2019.
