But when I get panicky about finishing a book, or working on it (which is, I think, a good definition of writer's block), I go small. I focus on one part of the book. Then I narrow down to one scene in that one part. Looking at the details helps me start putting one foot in front of the other. Before I know it, I'm off and working again.(less)

It's about one of the patients at the Peoria State Hospital. Rhoda's story is so compelling, I felt it had to be told in detail. I'm really intrigued by this young woman ... I won't say I'm enjoying writing the book, because that's not exactly the right word. Let's say rather that I'm learning a lot while writing the book.(less)
