Before I even write, I try to have a clear idea of my story's beginning and ending, and then I fill in the events between. I make an outline of the most important events and fill in the details to get from one to the next.

If I find that I've written myself into a corner, I take a break, re-read what I've got, and if nothing comes to me, I usually run it past my writing coach or editor. If you don't have these luxuries, a writing group can help. Don't seek the help of friends or family -- it's not the best way to get constructive crits unless they are in the industry.(less)

NaNoWriMo 2014

November is fast upon us. Better than Black Friday sales on Thursday, November marks the start of NaNoWriMo. Again, I find myself signed up and chomping at the bit to get started.
