My post
Beautiful People,
My Monday thank you goes to Safra Ada Catz, chief executive officer of Oracle Corporation, who was born in Holon, Israel.
At the age of six, she moved from Israel to Brookline, Massachusetts. She is married and has two sons.
Catz holds a bachelor of Arts/Science degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. Early in her career she was a banker at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette. In 1999, Catz joined Oracle Corporation and couple of years later she became a member of the company's Board of Directors.
In 2011, Catz was named Co-President and Chief Financial Officer, reporting to founder/CEO Larry Ellison. In 2014, Oracle announced that Larry Ellison will step down as CEO and that Mark Hurd and Safra Catz have been named as the new CEOs.
In 2015, Safra Catz was ranked by Forbes as the 24th most powerful business-woman, and 27th America’s richest self-made women.
I was born in Tel Aviv, Israel and when I was five years old my family moved to Holon, a city on the central coastal strip 3.7 miles from Tel Aviv. I have wonderful childhood memories from Holon, which was founded on sand dunes.
Israel in the 70s was a young state, Holon was loosely settled, and between the single-unit homes and the four-story blocks stretched shimmering yellow sand dunes. Every afternoon, the neighborhood’s kids used to play on the dunes games such as Treasure Hunt and Scavenger Hunt. It was hot, our feet were on fire, and sand got in our hair, clothes and months, but we were smitten by the secrets of the dunes and kept on visiting every day.
Safra Catz, America’s self-made women from Holon- You are such an inspiration to me!
XO,
Sharon
