I am a child of the 80's. I graduated high school, started college, and went through the majority of my life-shaping experiences in the 80's (and very early 90's). And with that caveat, let me say that Stranger Things has nailed it.
The show was recommended to me by many, many people, as something that harkened to the era and was a captivating story at the same time. And they were right. This is a story set in the real 1980's. Not the pastiche of those years. Not the parody of the time. It FEELS like the 1980's. Right down to the music and opening credits. These guys did their homework. (Well, the Demogorgon miniature they use in the first episode that is set in 1983 didn't actually come out until 1984, but...my geek is showing.)
What carries the show, though, is the story. Well crafted. Well acted. It just hit all the marks. If you like good storytelling--and if you are reading this, you are a fan of storytelling, or you wouldn't be on this site--give it a try. No spoilers, just be ready for darn near anything.
