Last night, the SyFy network debuted the first episode of their adaptation of Childhood's End by Arthur C. Clarke. Childhood's End is one of my favorite novels--easily in the top ten if not the top five--and I entered the first episode more than slightly trepidatious.
Thank god it was for nothing.
Though they changed a few things--mostly the character of Storgren, the era, and the time the story covers--they kept to the spirit of the book so very, very well that, at times, I was overcome with goosebumps.
Now, I'm not going to get spoiler-y, but I will say that I loved the design of the Overlords. They matched what my brain saw them as far more closely than any other depiction I've seen to date.
I have gone from trepidatious to excited for tonight's second episode. Let's hope they live up to the potential they've set with the initial offering.
