Does the Lord really love us just the way we are?
I heard this said many times from Christians or just plain folk, “Jesus loves you just the way you are” and yes, that is a good saying, and a good thought, but does He really love us just the way we are. Well if He does, why should we turn from any sin, if whom we are is drinking and partying, sexual immorality, drugs, cursing and so on, why should we turn, if we are loved just the way we are, we should not have to turn from anything, right? We are pleasing, just... as... we... are. Humm, I ask myself, why should I turn from anything? I’m loved just like I am. Well, I read in the Bible where this woman was caught in sin, John chapter 8:11, I think her name was Mary Magdalene, Jesus forgave her, and told her: Go and leave your life of sin. He even told another man that he healed in John chapter 5:14: Stop sinning before something worst happens to you. So I thought ok, He seemed to have loved them, but, not the way they were, not the things they were doing, he wanted them to stop; change their ways, so he corrected and warned them. Therefore, how did we come up with, Jesus loves us just the way we are, with so much talk in the Bible about repenting. So I figure, the truth is, he does not love us just the way we are, but I do believe He died for us, just the way we are, in all our sin, He took to the cross, and died for. But, He does not love us, just the way we are, He doesn’t love the sins we may be committing, He tells and warns us to turn from iniquity, and repent … So this is my conclusion; Jesus loves the sinner; but, He hates the sins we commit. So what we really should be saying is: Jesus died for you just the way you are. But he wants us to go and sin no more, and to stop sinning before something worst happens to us…with his help of course and the blood that he shed, because some sins are hard to turn from, the flesh is weak, and craves sin, so we need much prayer and fasting and help from the spirit of the Lord, or Satan will defeat us and this lost and dying world will help the evil one destroy us. Even people in high places will encourage you to keep sin in your life and they have no shame in doing so; throwing his Holy Word to the ground.

Angel Interesting...I would say God loves us just the way we are, whether we turn from sin or not. It's God's grace. Ephesians tells us, actions do not save you, whether good or bad, only God's grace can save you:

8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith —and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. ~Ephesians 2:8-9

So while we may all make mistakes and God may know all about those mistakes ahead of time, it doesn't stop Him from hoping that we will call on the holy spirit to bring us through our trials...and even if we don't, he still loves us. Unconditionally. I agree He hates the sin...sin is probably very confusing to the all knowing. God is love. It's grace...doing something for someone else when you have absolutely no reason to do it.

My thoughts...

Lydia Thornton All I’m saying is (God loves the sinner; he just hates our sins) that’s all.

Angel I know....just felt compelled to add my two cents! <3

Dale He loves us enough to cleanse us and transform us out of sin as we repent, but His love for us is not initiated by our repentance. He loved us before we were born. God loves the sinner but hates the sin.

C. J. Scurria Yeah I think that Christians should re-think that saying when they say that the Lord loves us just the way we are. If that was true and God loved us without giving His son for us I think I would have died a long time ago. . . sin can be a terrible thing.

I love that you used scripture to back up the false statement and made told what the Lord really is about.

The Lord loves us and we are so grateful of His grace we do not deserve!

Al "Tank" Mary Magdalene got a bad rap. Nowhere is her name mentioned in connection with the prostitute Jesus saved from the mob. The only thing we know for sure about her is that she was one of his followers and the things she did in that capacity.

I pretty much agree with the rest of what you said. Love the sinner; hate the sin. Just as you love your children, but try to correct their errors in judgement and behavior.
