Life Lessons in Blueberry Bubble Gum

Being a father of four I find that sometimes teaching children important life lessons can be made easier by reading them a story first. That is one of the reasons why I wrote Blueberry Bubble Gum. I wanted parents to have a book that they could not only enjoy reading along with their children, but also be able to use the book as a tool to teach their children important life lessons. The two major lessons in Blueberry Bubble Gum are not to lie, not even to tell small lies, and also to follow rules even when it is more tempting to break the rules than to follow them.

A funny incident that sticks out in my head that goes along with lessons in this book is when my second born child was four years old. He was told that the rule was not to eat any cookies until after dinner. When my wife and I left the kitchen he snuck into the cookies and ate more than his fair share. When my wife and I went back into the kitchen we right away knew he ate some because the evidence was all over his face (chocolate was all over his face). When we asked him “Did you follow the rules,” he said, “Yes”. We said “Did you eat some cookies?” His reply was a sweet voiced “No, I listened.” We then showed him his face in the mirror, he knew the gig was up and began to cry and apologize; all while explaining he just really wanted the cookies now and not after dinner. We then sat him down and explained that if we set rules he is to follow them and that he is not to lie to cover up his lack of listening.

Blueberry Bubble Gum reminds me of little incidents like these that happen to parents all around the world and my belief is that Blueberry Bubble Gum is a great way to open the conversation up and teach those important life lessons that all children need to learn.

Adrianna This article made me laugh because I agree with you that that many many parents around the world can relate to this :)! I have a few stories that go along with the whole cookie story....and it is funny catching them because they really think they can get away with it since they don't know the evidence is on their face :)! With that said, I read your book and I agree that it is a great book to read to children before having a talk/lecture with them because the book gets them into a great mood and it opens their mind up to the topic and really they learn the lesson from the book so having that talk after the book would be simple.

Mahamad Elfakir Thank you for taking part in my post. As a parent sometimes it is hard to punish a kid when they do something small like sneak a cookie because they do it in a way that is cute/funny. With that said, it is important to teach them that even a small lie is not ok and that following rules in life is very important. It is always best to do what is right. I think Blueberry Bubble Gum can help get the message across. Take Care!
