Yes. Both of them serve a purpose in Tristen’s life. One of the reasons is because he wants them there. Tristen is an immensely powerful Seeker, even though he doesn’t know it yet. He has the ability to attract what he needs or wants to help him in his quest.
But they both serve a very important role to help him with his responsibility. Ailey has always been bound to him and will always play a significant role not only in his life, but she has her own responsibilities to fulfill as well. Even though Mr. Becker has every expectation that Isolda went with Tristen on accident, others of a higher power have plans for her that will be revealed in Book 3.
