[close] Currently seeking new members! About our book club: We are passionate about Science Fiction and the worlds therein, though our interests range from Space Operas and artificial intelligence to dystopias and post-apocalyptic survival. This group is meant to have a small size, for a couple of reasons. We think that a smaller group size produces meaningful conversations, and can help us build a little community of people with similar interests. Also, it allows your voice to be heard – you’ll have the opportunity to choose books more often, and to help guide conversation toward your interests. There is no age restriction on this group, but we do hope/expect members to be mature enough to discuss difficult/strange ideas with an open mind (note I did not say “old enough” – this means any 70-year olds that want to join are expected to be willing and mature enough to have their ideas and biases challenged). What we read: Mostly Science Fiction, with an eye toward themes/genres that include: Dystopia, Artificial Intelligence, Space Opera, Hard Science Fiction, Horror, Post/Apocalyptic, etc... With group consensus we can better define this list. What we do: Read a book in sections (a quarter or so of the book per week, depending on size) and discuss. We'll try to maintain primary focus on the literature itself (always bringing it back to the story and/or the story's universe).
