[close] The Århus Feminist Reading Group was founded in May 2017. During this time, the group has met to discuss articles, books, poems and short stories, building new connections between people and generating discussion and personal reflection with each new meeting. The collective would like to create a space here for more sustained discussion and conversation about the books we read together. A priority of the group is inclusivity and diversity, and so with this in mind, the group is not an academic project and prior knowledge of feminist theory is not required.

[close] At the core of YWCA’s mission, our most essential job is to imagine, fight for, and create a more socially just world for the next generation of women -- and also prepare them for that future. In 2018, we’re introducing a new kind of book club. Each month, we’ll feature reads that tie directly to YWCA Dayton’s current advocacy priorities – economic advancement, gender-based violence, affordable housing, and girls of color– to raise awareness and spark dialogue. The best part: you can connect from wherever YOU are. This virtual book club lives on GoodReads. At the end of each month, we’ll host a discussion to unpack the book’s themes, talk about intersections, and identify ways everyone can empower women, eliminate racism, and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.

[close] For those asking “Why would they say that?” or “How can they think that?”, this is a group where these are not rhetorical questions. We really want to know - whatever your perspective. In this era of social media, I see less of a propensity for critical thinking and learning and more of a drive to shout and turn a deaf ear. We weather socio-economic, racial, religious, political, and other storms with routine frustration and too-often rigorous animosity and slanderous debate. 2020 appears to be one of these storms in our history and developing identity. In this group, we seek to understand. We listen. We think critically and question. Regardless of your position or thoughts on a particular issue, we can all discuss these things through an avenue of books.
