I check them out of the library so at least only my time is wasted and very rarely my money if I go to Barnes and Noble and let someone there recommend something! (never do that)

i usually dont buy my books either. I just find ebooks online. I hate wasting my time tho. I really cant stand bad writing. It totally destroys a good plot.
It seems I don't mind bad writing if the plot is good enough. I also read quite a bit of nonfiction. The spy novel I am reading right now is fantastic writing. Barry Eisler is the writer. I am reading Rain Storm but they changed the name to Winner Takes All which I don't like.
I dont how you can look past bad writing. :O I think three good points make a good story, #1 good writing, #2 plot and #3 character development/attraction. It really hard to reach all three goals and very few authors meet them. Ive never read Rain Storm. Sounds like a cool book, I just read its synopsis. I'd like to see a movie of this though. Books that fall under action I tend to like better in movie form.
I'm currently reading Falling into You by Jasinda Wilder. Having mixed feeling about it tho...
Well, according to people on goodreads I can look past it. I read lots of YA even tho I am old. That last one was Carry On and then Eleanor and Park by the same author. She wrote Fanfic and I find that I love it. Oh, I also just read Fangirl. I find that if I identify with a character that makes all the difference for me. On some level I have to identify. I can't stand female characters who buy expensive heels. If I read that I will quit immediately as I feel they are super shallow. I also could not stand the brand name dropping in Blue Bloods. Ian Fleming did a lot of that but when I read his books long ago I was OK with that. Plots can be very important to me. I like some plots that leave you guessing. Favorites are: Rebecca, the House on the Strand, The Other Typist, You which is terrifying and the Good Girl. I like the twists. My husband and I also read C. J. Box together but never read C. J. Box...The Highway by him as its horrifying. He really likes Joe Pickett. I will now read some reviews of Falling Into You so thanks.
The reviews make Falling into You sound truly horrible and most of those reviews are the type where they use those ridiculous flashy pictures which contribute nothing to their review. I doubt you will finish that one!
I wish i could still read YA. I Read lots of them when i was younger and many of them I have four or five stared in my Read list. BUT when i try reading those books now I find them odd. Especially when observing the male protagonist. Once I used to find them so hot and endearing, but now I'm like 'he's a good-man in the making' and that's such a weird feeling for me. I also can't stand the shallowness and immaturity in some YA books. I understand that age wise for the characters it is suitable but I dont find it suitable for me. AND...Falling for You is a very odd book so far and quite different than books I have read in the past, not plot wise but writing wise that is.
I checked out C.J Box on goodread but there weren't any synopsis' for the authors books.
I like plot that leave you guessing too like Lisa Renee Jones's book If I Were You. I love the suspense.
