Best books about growing roses in the garden. They don't grow well at 8,000 feet but I did learn that rugosas will grow up here.

I don't have much of a green thumb, but I love roses ... looking at them, receiving them, and photographing them! :)

Thanks for posting the big red rose! In Texas I had no problem growing roses and had many of them but here its very hard. I have 3 bushes which struggle at this altitude. When I first moved here I got on several yahoo lists to grow roses and the best one was Arianne's For the Love of Roses where I got lots of good information. Arianne has a rose garden with about 78 roses if I remember right. I am thinking about them a good bit as next month so many will be blooming.
They're already out in full bloom here -- nature is extremely early this year (usually we'd have to wait at least another week or two). That photo is one I took just yesterday! Took a long walk through our neighborhood and ended up stopping every three feet or so to take yet another picture ... (the results are posted here, together with a few impressions from other places :)).I can see how difficult it would be to grow roses up at the heights where you live -- I'm impressed with your resolve to make it happen nevertheless!
Lucky you! Its still cold here and everything is very slow. At least my mauve tulips have really lasted and the deer didn't notice them. They are so beautiful they hardly look real. I hope my aspens are not dead as most are out but not mine.
It was very difficult but I did persist killing over 15 plants. Two guys on the roses lists were very helpful one tellng me he had seen rugosas growing in Leadville which is higher. Sometimes I don't realize something cannot be done so I just keep trying! duh me!
