I love this list. Unfortunately, the book that I think of is one that my dad wrote but never published. It was based on a dream that he had and featured the very memorable characters of Herman and Melville, two men traveling the country. I think this one deserves a re-read ...
About 30 years ago my dad gave me a book entitled 'Wings on my suitcase' whose author I have forgotten. I was an air hostess at the time and the book told the stories of various people who worked as cabin crew in the early days of flying. The book meant an awful lot to me but, sadly, was destroyed in a flood in a storage area when I was living abroad. I have never seen it since, but the memory of him searching through second hand books and chancing upon this gem is a very precious one. Would love to get another copy, but I think its a long shot.

Many thanks for your interest. It is so uplifting that you would make this effort on my behalf. I hope to secure one of the copies today.
When I was in 3rd or 4th grade, my dad gave me an Easter basket with a Dungeons and Dragons PC game inside. It was based on the DragonLance novels and had a copy of Wanderlust inside. I was intimidated by the "adult" looking book for awhile, but when I got got around to finishing it, I began reading almost non-stop, going to the bookstore every other weekend for that $5 fantasy book ($5, great times).
My dad only gave me one book that I can remember. He has dyslexia and doesn't like to read much. You actually managed to have that book on the list. Treasure Island. I have always been into sci fi and fantasy. I barely remember the book. It just isn't my style. He did let me buy lots of books as a kid.
My father was a pretty smart guy(Yale grad), but not much of a reader as I remember. I can't recall a single book he recommended to me. Too busy drinking, I suppose.
Growing up in the US with a British father, I got to experience many wonderful stories and these stories inspired me on my own journey to become an author. Most of the great classic authors come from England after all! Though every country in the world has also produced great writers, most of my favorites do come from that country.
