Book cover for The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood Is Causing an Epidemic of Mental Illness
By 2014, nearly a third of teen girls were spending over 20 hours a week on social media sites. That’s half of a full-time job—creating content for the platform and consuming content created by others. That is time no longer available for ...more

Peter Attia
“The study reported a 24 percent relative increase in the risk of breast cancer among a subset of women taking HRT, and headlines all over the world condemned HRT as a dangerous, cancer-causing therapy. All of a sudden, on the basis of this one study, hormone replacement treatment became virtually taboo. This reported 24 percent risk increase sounded scary indeed. But nobody seemed to care that the absolute risk increase of breast cancer for women in the study remained minuscule. Roughly five out of every one thousand women in the HRT group developed breast cancer, versus four out of every one thousand in the control group, who received no hormones.”
Peter Attia MD, Outlive: The Science and Art of Longevity

David Brooks
“At the moment when you are most confused about what you should do with your life, the smartest bet is to do what millions of men and women have done through history. Pick yourself up and go out alone into the wilderness.”
David Brooks, The Second Mountain: The Quest for a Moral Life

“Recommending a book to someone is the second best thing to buying it for them, which is the second best thing to reading it for them.”

“People who are left naked and alone by radical individualism do what their genes and the ancient history of their species tell them to do: They revert to tribe. Individualism, taken too far, leads to tribalism.”
David Brooks, The Second Mountain: The Quest for a Moral Life

Emily St. John Mandel
“My personal belief is that we turn to postapocalyptic fiction not because we’re drawn to disaster, per se, but because we’re drawn to what we imagine might come next. We long secretly for a world with less technology in it.”
Emily St. John Mandel, Sea of Tranquility
