Listopia > Cascadia Subduction Zone - Fiction & Non-Fiction
For FICTION and NON-FICTION about the Cascadia Subduction Zone, including past, present and future earthquakes (and their threats). For those who live in the area, the looming earthquake is often called "The Big One," and it has yet to happen. Lets hope it never does!
PLEASE ONLY ADD A FICTION BOOK IF IT IS SET IN THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST AND INVOLVES THE CASCADIA SUBDUCTION ZONE. NO SAN ANDREAS/CALIFORNIA STORIES or OTHER EARTHQUAKE AREAS!
"The Cascadia subduction zone (also referred to as the Cascadia fault) is a convergent plate boundary that stretches from northern Vancouver Island to northern California. It is a very long, sloping subduction zone that separates the Explorer, Juan de Fuca, and Gorda plates, on the one hand, and the North American Plate, on the other." (Wiki)
"Great Subduction Zone earthquakes are the largest earthquakes in the world, and are the only source zones that can produce earthquakes greater than M8.5. The CSZ has produced magnitude 9.0 or greater earthquakes in the past, and undoubtedly will in the future....The last known megathrust earthquake in the northwest was in January, 1700, just over 300 years ago. Geological evidence indicates that such great earthquakes have occurred at least seven times in the last 3,500 years, a return interval of 400 to 600 years."

I’ve never read any of these types of books before. Don’t think that I would either.

You know, this is the third time I’ve made a comment on these lists where someone has left me a snarky remark. I thought that this is what this box was use for. Negative, positive discussions but I’m so over it . And trust me, if the truth be told told, in the big scheme of anyone’s reading enjoyment, these lists have no real impact, at all.

I wasn't being snarky. I was perplexed, to be honest. I don't understand why you'd think anyone cares whether you have read or will read any of the books on the list?🤷🏻♀️I was gently tying to point out, the list is not made for people like you who aren't interested, but for people that are. Imagine someone going into a group for new parents and saying, I don't like kids and don't plan on having any. The people there will be like me - okay? why are you here? why do we care? 🤔There are countless lists on GR for topics I don't like and will never read, yet I don't think my opinion on that fact is important enough to share with everyone - they don't care what some rando on GR thinks 😂. As for lists in general, they do help me quite a bit as I run reading challenges and they provide great help for many themes/topics. Everyone's experience with them will vary though, so if they don't have an impact with you, that's fine. As for list discussions, personally I only leave them to point out a correction - wrong book, wrong pub date, etc. I personally, don't use them for discussions on the merits of the list topic or books within it. All that being said, have a good day.
