Kiki What the hell are Rapture and Firelight doing on this list? They're paranormal romance, not dystopian. Failsome fail.

message 2: by Natalie (last edited Mar 13, 2012 11:35PM) (new)

Natalie I haven't read them but I don't think Gallagher Girls is dystopian either. Someone summarized them to me as teenage girls who go to spy school.

The Mark of Athena is another that doesn't belong. That's just fantasy/mythology, not dystopian.

LOL that's EXACTLY what I was just thinking!

I haven't read them either. But I am certain that they aren't dystopian.

Prodigy doesn't even come out till 2013.

Christina I really, really don't think many young people seem to understand what the terms "dystopian" and "post-apocalyptic" actually mean. Ever since The Hunger Games, the dystopia genre has suddenly become "cool", and now everyone is slapping the label on anything and everything. The Mortal Instruments series isn't dystopian either.
This isn't a "I read dystopian-genre novels before they were cool" comment, well, maybe it is a little bit, but I HAVE been reading this genre for years, long before The Hunger Games series, and I even did a mini-dissertation on the genre for an assignment in my last year of high school and I don't know, this whole thing just annoys the crap out of me.
I am enjoying the flood of dystopian books on the market though, even if some of them are awful - always nice to have a lot to choose from.

I agree. I think it was actually the Giver that got me to liking Dystopian novels...
