Ma well, guys who have composed this list, i'm addressing you directly. while 2022 war is NO doubt a horrible tragedy of Ukrainian nation, this painful fact does not make naming Stepan Bandera, Roman Shukhevych and SS division Galizien the collaborators of WW2 nazis untrue. They were nazis, and some books you included here (like "Pure Soldiers or Bloodthirsty Murderers") clearly state this historical fact.

For those who is interested in exploring the topic, I recommend a good book by Grzegorz Rossolinski-Liebe "Stepan Bandera: The Life and Afterlife of a Ukrainian Nationalist: Fascism, Genocide, and Cult"

Hello, Max!
Thank you for addressing your concerns. This list is not about whitewashing the pages of Ukrainian history that we are not proud of (every country on the planet unfortunately has those). I am all about unbiased and open looks at history, and many historians wrote unbiased and open books about Bandera, Shukhevych, and WW2. As you can see, the list is only targeting the books that are written with animosity towards Ukrainians, and to write a book in a manner that is xenophobic against the country you are writing about is indeed a choice.
Such a choice unfortunately was taken by Grzegorz Rossolinski-Liebe, whose book you recommend, as well. As someone coming from a family one part of which was actively fighting against Nazis in WW2 as a captain and a nurse, and another lost 12 people during the Holocaust just because they were Jewish, I understand how sensitive and important these topics are. But let's be honest, books written in an unbiased manner don't provoke reviews that claim outright lies: "the North Korean-like Dear Leader status he has assumed in modern Ukraine", nor they should make someone to be "less sympathetic" to the whole foreign country they are talking about. Due to such emotional and hateful reactions, I included the book on the list, so thank you for mentioning it.

Maybe if you had some time between reading conspiracy theories and rooting all over Twitter for your beloved russians committing genocide, you would focus on reality and see that the sentence you wrote has nothing to do with the list you are commenting on but I guess it's too much to expect from a commie.

Tea S. one of the books you included is a biography of stepan bandera, which you have labelled as "ukrainophobic", therefore i can only assume you are a defender of bandera.

Books are added to this list not because of their topic but because they are written with animosity towards Ukrainians as a nation. There are plenty of history books on Bandera which are as you can notice not on this list aka they are written without said animosity.

Kernel Panic Is highlighting the dangers of Nazi Germany-style ethnonationalism, such as that promoted in Ukraine or the Baltic States these days, considered "Ukrainophobic"?

Halina Hetman Dunning wrote: "Is highlighting the dangers of Nazi Germany-style ethnonationalism, such as that promoted in Ukraine or the Baltic States these days, considered "Ukrainophobic"?"

tw: long read ahead

Given your latest reviews which are accessible on your page, I do not see any sense in arguing about nationalism (which is, I think, a healthy sentiment, especially in post-colonial countries like Ukraine and "the Baltic States", that are being attacked again or being prepared to be attacked again by their ex-colonizer, a friendly neighborly empire), and why you call it "ethnonationalism", or why you think it's reminiscent of Nazi Germany, or it's "promoted" (by who? why only "these days"? where is this information coming from? - questions that arise from your message which I don't want answers to because it's not Twitter and I'm not here to discover wonders of Russian propaganda & educate adults for free).

To answer your question, there is a list of criteria under the name of the list that classifies a book as Ukrainophobic (according to this particular list, which represents my personal views & views of the people who agreed with the criteria and decided to interact with it). They are not added here because of their topic but because of a) the style of delivering their message, or b) the message itself being hatred, genocide denial, denial of existence, etc.

So more generalized answer is No. Not every critique or even dislike of Ukraine, its politics, politicians, history, historical figures, elements of culture, etc is Ukrainophobic, as not every critique of Islam is Islamophobic, and discussions of transgender issues don't have to be inherently transphobic, and conversation about darker sides of American society is not anti-American unless you make it so (even though people who are sensitive to the topic may slip into labeling every opinion not correlating with theirs as -phobic when speaking of something dear to their heart and identity, which is very... human; and it's very human as well that people who have strongly negative opinions on some topics usually slip into being rather -phobic instead of leading a civilized and educated discussion as was their initial intention, which is an unfortunate case of some books on this list). Moreover, Ukrainians themselves are usually pretty vocal in highlighting and arguing about all of the above themselves cause we en masse believe in free speech and are eager to explore the idea of it since it's finally legal. However, as I stated previously, there are ways to discuss, highlight, and argue - and there are ways not to, and it's easy to slip into later, and some authors do, and that's how the books appear here, judged by their readers.
