Magical girl (also called mahou shoujo) is a type of manga that features a female protagonist with super powers who may or may not fight monsters or evil to save the world. Magical girls will normally have a transformation or a disguise and will often go on quests and adventures.

This type of manga is not always shoujo, and can be either shounen or seinen (which is manga aimed at younger and older boys) as well.
