Anyone can add books to this and all other lists. The person who creates the list only starts it off, but then other people can add their own favorite books to it and religious books often end up on many lists.

Although I am not the person who added the Book of Mormon to this list, I would agree that it belongs. I am the author of Doctrine of Liberty: Insights from the Book of Mormon. I suggest that the Book of Mormon has a very strong theme of freedom. Perhaps that is why someone included it on this list.

READ IT and you'll know why.... :) One of my fav stories in there is the account of Captain Moroni and the 'Title of Liberty'.

The B.O.M speaks out constantly AGAINST having kings to rule over the people bc it leads to bondage, it speaks endlessly about free nations, how to remain free and why nations fall into captivity. It speaks about government conspiracy and why it is important to vote for righteous leaders to defend freedom. LIBERTY is the main focus in the Book of Mormon.

Christ and liberty are synonymous. His entire mission was to defend liberty and to atone for us. The plan of salvation IS liberty. The beauty of scripture is that we each find personal meaning within the pages. For me, the BoM is centered around Liberty. So maybe for you it is more about the atonement, but since the atonement and Christ are the cornerstones of my faith it is always in the backdrop for me regardless of what text I am reading. The book of Mormon is another witness of Jesus, yes, but it is the foremost book about liberty for me, period.

What about God is Not Great by Christopher Hitchens? Freedom from religion should be included as well since many people believe that religion embodies the opposite of freedom or liberty, and instead casts a shadow on these ideals. All points of view should be considered! :)

How come 2 books by Naomi Klein are in the list?

I guess everyone considers himself a freedom lover, but only a few really understand what it means.

That's one reason why I prefer to talk about liberty instead. N. Klein can talk about freedom from capitalist pigs destroying the environment. M. Moore can talk about freedom from weapons. Liberty is more resilient to their double speak.

Yes, it's a display of ignorance because you lazily want to rely on others to educate you. Do your own research. Google it, or go to Wikipedia to at least gain a cursory knowledge of the subject at hand, and then if you have a specific question based on what you've learned, you'll have earned the respect of those who might be willing to answer.

It's called 'going to the source'. NOT depending on what others - with their biases - might tell you.

IOW - Be responsible for your own learning.

Also, why is it you only ask about the validity of a 'religious' book being on the list? Plenty of others are at least as questionable. The implication of your question is clear. And it's pathetic.

What a moronic reply. I can't resist to list the failures in your judgement.

1. You suggest that the only way to learn something in a list of 600+ books assembled by random people is by reading of researching each one of them. I wonder if a guest in your house sees a book in a shelf, and asks you "I never read this book. Is it interesting?" and you answer "You're such an ignorant! Go do some research! Look everyone, this guy is so dumb."

2. You completely missed the fact that I was not the one that made the original question about the Book of Mormon. I was just paraphrasing it.

3. Simply asking "why" a book is in the list is not the same as questioning its validity.

4. Your "implications" of the question are completely imagined, even though they could be correct. Jumping to conclusions about someone else's character based on a simple question is ridiculously immature.

To finish, I'd like to complement my previous comment. As I said, I was just repeating a question asked earlier. I read the answers. Thanks to the people that cared to shared their insight about the B.O.M.
