It's a staple of pulp fiction -- the book cover depicting a murderer about to strike, or lovers in a passionate (and possibly forbidden) embrace, or somebody engaging in some other apparently not-quite-kosher activity. It's not just pulp fiction, though. Sex sells, and so does crime ... and then again, there ARE books, of course, where a cover like that actually does sum up the whole book's content in a single image. Or does it?

Thom Dunn Dear Themes, I plan to keep this list in mind, make notes, and come back to it when I have something.

Themis-Athena (Lioness at Large) Thanks, Thom -- much appreciated. And no rush ...

Lobstergirl That particular cover of Lady Chatterley's Lover always gives me a chuckle.

This list reminds me of an idea for a list I've been pondering - covers that remind me of Cialis commercials. I don't know if they're in countries besides the U.S., but the ad here is a man and woman sitting in side by side clawfoot bathtubs, holding hands, out in nature - like on a beach, or in a meadow or something. It always makes me wonder, when the sexual urge suddenly comes over him, do they then transition into one of the bathtubs? Why not keep it simpler and begin in one, larger bathtub?

Themis-Athena (Lioness at Large) Because that would be too much in your face perhaps ... or suggest not enough time for things to develop naturally, even if he doesn't simply have to fall on top of her when the good stuff kicks in?

Yes, that "Lady Chatterley" cover is a great one, isn't it? It's the one that gave me the idea for this list, incidentally ...

Lobstergirl I was going to put this book on the Cialis list, but I guess they're both girls so it wouldn't work quite as well....

Ein Freund ist jemand, der dich gern hat by Joan Walsh Anglund

Themis-Athena (Lioness at Large) It being a children's book they both HAVE to be girls ... funny how that works (PC-wise) the opposite way it would work with books for grown ups, isn't it?
