Natalie There was cheating in Beautiful Disaster? Which part?

message 2: by KatieV (new)

KatieV I love the list, because I'm anti-cheating in romance novels and would rather know which ones to avoid, but am confused about some of these. What exactly is the definition of cheating used here? Mine is that once the H/h start sleeping together there should be no other partners.

The Flame and the Flower by Kathleen Woodiwiss - I've read this 1000x and Brandon never cheated on Heather. Is it on here because he had the fiance back in America when he first met Heather?

Once and Always by Judith McNaught - The H did have a mistress in the beginning of the book, but once he decided to marry the h, she was out of the picture and he never slept with anyone else once they were married.

I am glad to hear that about The Flame And The Flower :) I haven't read it yet, but I LOVE Kathleen Woodiwiss, and it is currently on my bookshelf waiting to be read :) I too try to stay away from cheating in books. Thank you for letting me know that! :)

No problem. That's the first HR I ever read. I was 13 and stayed up all night :) So, it will always have a special place with me. It's often referred to as the book that started the bodice ripper genre, so there are things many have problems with. I've reviewed it here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Haha, that's funny, that it "started" the bodice ripper genre :) My mom gave me Shanna to read once I started reading romance. She said I HAD to read it. After that, I read A Rose In Winter, which is one of my FAVORITES!! I recently found more of her books at a thrift store, so I plan on reading more of them soon! :D

I got confused about Once and always as well!! so I just re-read it,O-M-G, i can't believe how I missed it,after the first wedding night because of the misunderstanding,he goes to London every night and is seen in his mistresses company:(

He never denies it or even clarifies it and even says to Victoria that she doesn't know,a man has to relieve his sexual urges,OMG im heart broken NOW..would never have rated it 5 star*head spinning*

I can't believe I missed that either! I could have sworn he never cheated. Damn! :( I'll have to re-read that part and upset myself as you have - lol.

KatieV I recently read If You Deceive and I don't consider it a cheating book. (view spoiler). Anyway, it's a great book.

Well, everyones entitled to their opinion, but I do place that in kinda cheating category..since if one feels deeply for someone, you really wouldn't wanna do that!

I completely understand that, but as long as the guy stops before he goes all the way because he knows it's wrong, it won't stop me from reading. I wish we could make notations on our votes re: what level of cheating (lol). Because obviously everyone has their different definition.

hehe..that would give them a lot of margin for excuse,to do everything but dipping in and say hey 'I stopped'!!
Now we even have the concept of e-cheating, u have internet sex(typed form),even that's cheating..

"cheating" is any form of sexually charged intimate behavior with any another individual besides your significant other!!

In the real world absolutely, but in fiction I can deal with things for dramatic effect that I'd never tolerate in my personal life. That's why I like spoilers for "cheating books" that way I know what I'm dealing with and can decide if it's going to be so disturbing I won't enjoy the book or something I may not like, but can live with.

Mostly historical and I prefer the ones published pre 2K

I find that the older historicals are very well written with great plots, characters and all whereas the more recent ones are just meh!(with the exception of few)

I think it was deliberately left vague so that the reader could believe whatever they were comfortable with. This was at the point after the disastrous wedding night. He was pouting and seen in his supposed ex-mistress' company. The cynic in me says 'yeah, he slept with her', but the romantic says 'no, it was just one of those things where he "tried" to get over the heroine and couldn't quite make it work.

It's never clarified though, so I suppose only McNaught knows for certain. I suppose I can get past it (strictly in imaginary fictionland) because the h did ask him for a divorce after the wedding night (who could blame her?) and he really believed she didn't want to be with him and he was trapped in a marriage-in-name-only.
