The German Piper Verlag published a series of books titled "Gebrauchsanweisung für..." (Users' manual for...). It's a series of travelguides which are different from the usual ones: authors living in the area write about culture, traditions, daily life, people's behaviour etc. The books have been published for cities (e.g. Berlin, Paris, New York), regions (e.g. Bavaria, Tuscany, Provence), countries (e.g. Norway, England, USA) or the entire world.
