,

I started this list back in 2009 with the name 'books that are trying hard to be like Twilight', which is pretty funny because it sounds like Twilight is the best thing since sliced bread and there are books that try to compete. I don't remember my 14 year-old logic (I was never even a fan of Twi) but I think I just meant books with vampire/werewolf themes post-Twilight. This is a very confused/confusing list. Ignore. And for any super-librarians, delete.

Morgan F Interview With the Vampire is ancient. Twilight, if anything, is a copy of it. I also think Vampire Kisses is older than Twilight.

message 2: by Loren (new)

Loren Toddy Yup, some of these books predate Twilight and are better than Twilight.

message 3: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Sorry, but House of night, Blue Bloods, and Full Moon dont have anything to do with Twilight. I cant say anything for the other books because I haven't read them.

message 4: by Shafia (new)

Shafia Seriously? Twilight? Twilight is the most pathetic story that I have ever read. Totally waste of money and trees. I have read a lot of vampire stories, but Twilight is worst of them all. Sparkly vampire, who wants to read about sparkly vampires?

message 5: by Shannon (new)

Shannon I can't believe Anne Rice is even on this list. Not only were her books written way before Twilight, but they probably inspired most vampire fiction out there.

message 6: by Jade (last edited Apr 13, 2010 09:14AM) (new)

Jade Walker I completely agree with Shannon! The House of Night books aren't either, just because they are about Vampires, at least the protagonist isn't whiny in those novels. The City of Bones series by Cassandra Clare? Well what can I say? best series ever, beat Twilight by a mile AND the storylines are completely dfferent, I could go on but ill just leave it at this. Just because a book is YA doesn't mean its trying to be Twilight.

message 7: by sfc (new)

sfc Also with Shannon and others who pointed out that many of the boks on this list predate twilight

message 8: by Elaine (new)

Elaine Vampire Academy is nothing like twilight, the main character is basically a slayer of bad vampires and the whole falling in love with a vampire is there but very different. Blue Bloods isn't like twilight either because the main character is a vampire, well a half vampire.

message 9: by Nena (new)

i think its rather twilight, which is trying to copy the most of the books above, and, if i´m honest, rather bad. truly, twilight contains four good books, but the most the listed are much better, some are even cult.

message 10: by Ain020596 (new)

Ain020596 just because the books have vampires doesn't mean its about twilight! Seriously, Vampire Academy is NOTHING like Twilight. House of Night and Twilight? I don't see a link at all! Blue Bloods? Hellooou, the Vampires there are ten times more original than any vamps I've read.

message 11: by Yanet (last edited Jul 31, 2010 06:52PM) (new)

Yanet LMAO!!! this got to be the THE most idiotic list i have seen so far!
Why would any author would want to make a book like twilight?

i also agree with Ain020596 & Shannon

message 12: by Marissa (new)

Marissa Elisabeth wrote: "Sorry, but House of night, Blue Bloods, and Full Moon dont have anything to do with Twilight. I cant say anything for the other books because I haven't read them. "

I concur. House of Night may be about vampires, but it is nothing like the Twilight series. And from what I know about the other books they arent like it either, besides the vampire part and Twilight sure as hell doesnt own the rights to anything vampire related. This list is a little ridiculous...sorry.

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

Vampire Academy, and The Mortal Instruments are NOTHING like Twilight

message 14: by Jessa (last edited Jan 24, 2011 11:07PM) (new)

Jessa Moore No, just no. There are books on here that were written waaay before Twilight. And the only thing similar between Twilight and Vampire Academy/Anita Blake series/Anne Rice books is that there are vampires in them. And it's only the word 'vampire' because those other vampires don't sparkle. I doubt that ANY of these books are like Twilight, unless the main character is a whiny girl who can't do anything for herself and the other one looks like he lost a glitter fight.

message 15: by Sophie (new)

Sophie wow, um pretty much none of these books have anything to do with twilight...most were even written before as mentioned in the above comment. who would even think to put the anita blake or urban werewolf series on the list they are awesome but shouldnt even be mentioned in the same sentence as twilight they are on a whoooole different level.

message 16: by Mikayla (new)

Mikayla I wasn't gonna say anything... until I saw that Laurell K. Hamilton, Kathy Love AND J.R. Ward are on this list. Are...Are you KIDDING ME! First! J.R. Ward doesn't even HAVE werewolves!!! So that's out! And The Anita Blake books were waaaaay before Twilight was hatched from its little dream egg. My sister is a werewolf… JUST BECAUSE IT HAS VAMPIRES AND WEREWOLVES DOES NOT MEAN IT IS TRYING TO BE TWILIGHT!! Also, F.Y.I. to anyone who wants to know, The House of Night books were written BEFORE twilight. I understand people like Twilight, but jeez! Have you EVER read another book that DARED to say vampires were sparkly? No, because the people in those books would be slaughtered...by the REAL vampires!!!
P.S. I decided I would not say anything about The Vampire Lestat being on this list…least I go ballistic. But in case you wanted to know it came out in 1985.

message 17: by Sophie (new)

Sophie I agree with the chick above!

message 18: by Nena (new)

Nena dito ^_^

message 19: by Amanda (last edited May 23, 2011 12:57AM) (new)

Amanda Okay. I am curious how books that came out YEARS before that shitstorm of a book came out are trying to be like it. Namely the Anita Blake books. Really? First published in '93. WAY before Twilight. One of my favorite quotes, "A vampire and a werewolf after the same girl? Yeah. I read that when it was called Anita Blake." But you know, it was actually good.

This list is stupid. The end.

message 20: by Reading Is Sexy (new)

Reading Is Sexy there are only a couple series listed that are made after twilight the others have been out for a while.

message 21: by Elly (new)

Elly I have to agree with a lot of these posters... twilight does NOT even compare to most of the other books on the list. Nightlight is a better vampire story and its a parody

message 22: by book (new)

book Victor Pelevin's "A Werewolf Problem in Central Russia: And Other Stories" has "fortunately" nothing to do with the Twilight Series. It's a political satire.
