I won't mention this again, but I don't understand why so many of these books have nothing to do with the Baby Boomer Generation. A Boomer, by definition, is somebody born between 1946 and 1964. "About Schmidt" has a protagonist who was played by Jack Nicholson, who was born in 1937. "Best Marigold Hotel" starred Maggie Smith and Judi Dench, both born in 1934. Lovely films, lovely books, lovely actors. But they are not BOOMERS. I think you need to rename this group "AARP Lit" or "Elder Lit". Boomers don't play bridge; we play Trivial Pursuit. And we aren't crones. Maybe superannuated children, but not crones.

I beg to differ on just one point. Boomers DO play bridge! Just sayin'.

I beg to differ on ALL points: if it were the case, then Yound Adult Lit is not for you either since you're a baby boomer. Yet 30 years ago, YA Lit became the most successful genre ever in publishing history thanks to baby boomers support at the time. Yes, baby boomers made YA Lit what it is today!

Boomer Lit is a term that refers to the MARKET the books are aimed at, NOT the fact that characters in Boomer Lit fiction are boomers. If that were the case, half the characters in any Boomer Lit book would be out - not a boomer! A daughter is not a boomer. A grandmother is not a boomer...See what I mean? Boomer Lit is about TRANSITION to a second adulthood, to renewed maturity after you've lost a longtime spouse or your career has ended in a rut or more simply you've retired. Boomer Lit is about inter-generational situations (and strife). Boomer Lit takes a thoughtful, mature look at what it means to be a parent, with responsibilities to your grown-up children and to your elders - we are the so-called "sandwiched generation". And that is a very challenging situation to be in, perfect fodder for great fiction!

Bottom line, Boomer Lit is the ultimate search for self. In YA Lit, you find your first "adult" self, in Boomer Lit you find your FINAL SELF, the real one, the real you.

Since I created this group, I think I know a little about what I'm talking about ( I hope so!). And Boomer Lit has absolutely nothing to do with AARP or "Elder Lit", it never did.
