The best book by Dean Koontz, in my opinion, is Life Expectancy. Add all the Odd Thomas books to this as well.

I adore Dean Koontz, my best books by Dean Koontz are:1. From the Corner of His Eye
2. Lightning
3. Dark Rivers of the Heart
4. Intensity
5. Sole Survivor
Meh, Besides the first one I really didn't like any of the Odd Thomas books. I liked, The Taking a lot.
I'd have to agree. Loved the first Odd Thomas book, the others not so much. That one and Watchers are mandatory reading if you want to give Koontz a try. And I really liked what he did with the Frankenstein story, though the final book was a let down.
my son is like most kids today, he hated reading until I gave him Fear Nothing. He loved it so much he read the second book, then went on to the Odd Thomas books. Theres no stopping hom now. I love all the Dean Koontz books I have & look forward to getting many more.
The Best book of Dean Koonts for me as of now is Life Expectancy. It's written beautifully with all the very unexpected twists that are not similar with other books. But I also find Velocity and Odd Thomas good as well. Looking forward to reading all of his books. :)
My all time favorite Koontz book has to be Watchers. Heck, it's one of my all time favorite BOOKS. Also, LOVED Life Expectancy, because it was so different for our buddy Dean. And From the Corner of His Eye...I thought it had a deeply spiritual side.

My two cents. Watchers and Odd Thomas (exclusively the first book) were far and away my favorites. Almost all of his others I've enjoyed. I hated Intensity, which I did not finish. I'm sure that puts me in the minority here, that's ok. Bye all.

Dean Koontz is my all time favorite author and the book written by him that I love the most was Watchers, I do however love all the writings my him that I have read so far.

Dean Koontz is also my favorite author and I love to read his books. I recently started collecting his books. I get them from thrift shops for a dollar or two. I also get them from the local library used books store. They sale them there for a buck. I went today and picked up Breathless. I just did a count I have 30 I only buy hard copy's no paperbacks. Sorry for going on and on. I got carried away. Anyway your post took the words right out of my head. lol
My all time favorite Koontz book is Watchers. Love them all, for the most part. But Watchers is definitely the top of my list!
What happened to Night Chills? This was my first Dean Koontz book and I loved it, very hard edged for Koontz. My top 10 so far are:1. Twilight Eyes
2. Watchers
3. Lightning
4. The Bad Place
5. Midnight
6. Phantoms
7. Tick Tock
8. Mr Murder
9. Life Expectancy
10. Darkfall
Whilst I have read some of Deans later Novels, I do think his earlier works were more original and had a harder edge to them. Whilst I know some loose main characters during the story, it would be better if occasionally there was an unhappy ending to keep you guessing, as you tend to know that all will end happily.
I read Plague by Masterton and whilst I dont rate him quite in the same league as Koontz the ending had a bigger impact than most Koontz's happier endings, or Last Rites by Shaun Hutson for example. The power of the possibility of an unhappy ending means you can't take the author and story forgranted.
Having said that Twilight Eyes and Watchers are the two best books I have ever read and just wish there had been follow up to Twilight Eyes.
I love dean Kuntz an a few others. I have over 560. Bks on my nook alone lol best thing I bought. I can buy his next bks anytime using my nook. No more running from store to store hoping they have the next bk. Keep it up. Hes such an awesome author.
What?? You didn't include Watchers? I thought that was his BESTRecommendeo wrote: "I adore Dean Koontz, my best books by Dean Koontz are:

Denny wrote: "My favorite is the first one I ever read by Koontz, Phantoms"This book petrified me, it remains the pinnacle of horror in my opinion.
I've been on a quest of thrift stores buying up every Dean Koontz book I can find. Now that I have several dozen of them and not that much time to read, I am trying to decide which to read first. I've read the first four Odd books and enjoyed them all to varying degrees. I feel that I MUST complete the series. I've also read INTENSITY, which is one of my favorite books of all time (I am 69+ and have read MANY books). I am depending on comments from you other readers to prioritize my list. I have two of the Frankenstein books up there, already.ANYONE know IF/how/why Koontz offended Hollywood? So many of his books would make superb movies. I am aware of only 3 and none of them were widely publicized. INTENSITY, starring John C. McGinley, was EXCELLENT, although the movie ending was considerably different from the book. BTW, McGinley plays the deranged villain to perfection!
i love all that i have have read so far of Dean Koontz also love to read Stephen King and James Herbert books
If you want to read Koontz you can not dismiss the classic "Phantoms". My top 5
1. Dark Rivers Of The Heart
2. Strangers
3. Lightning
4. Phantoms
5. Watchers
The Face is by far my favorite. It is his underrated masterpiece in my opinion, and the ending is AMAZING. If it was done right it would make an incredible movie. My top 5
1. The Face
2. Odd Thomas
3. Velocity
4. The Taking
5. Brother Odd
