Did you have a favorite witchy series when you were very young? Did you love Dorrie, the Little Witch, Meg and Mog, or Winnie the Witch? If so, this is the list for you—a one-stop witching extravaganza, featuring picture books where the main characters (or one of them, at least) are witches!
Please note, this list is for witchy picture-books, or possibly other heavily illustrated titles, such as early readers. The artwork in these books should be as integral to the storytelling as the text. Novels and other longer works of fiction or non-fiction about witches should not be added.

Hi Capn: I wish I had seen your note, before going ahead and deleting the Worst Witch books, as well as one other chapter-book that was added.
I am the member who originally created this list. Subsequent to that, I left Goodreads for a few years, before rejoining a couple of years ago. (a number of other early list contributors can confirm this)
I created the list explicitly for picture-books, but as some made an argument to me that a limited number of other formats—early readers, for instance—also featured illustrations as prominently as picture-books, I expanded it. That said, chapter-books like the Worst Witch are outside the purpose of the list. I have read and enjoyed the first Worst Witch book, and certainly don't have anything against the series, but illustrated or not, it simply doesn't belong on the list.
Hey Abigail - if you are the OP, you can do exactly as you like! :) And I'll happily respect your wishes. :) Would you like to include a page count as an exclusion factor to help clarify things, or would that not help?(Welcome back!)

My witchy witches projects is one of my favorites, which is why I started the list. I love more involved, longer stories about witches as well, but the list is intended to highlight work where the illustrative element is equal (or even greater) to the textual one. I'm not sure about an explicit page limit. I thought limiting it to certain forms: picture-book, early reader, etc, would do it. But people do sometimes seem to want to add chapter-books on the lower end of the reading level spectrum. Not sure...

:D I don't think many people know about this one - we can bolster it.
I also have a related list that might be useful:
"Witch" is not really a witch

Very nice! I will have to try to add books to both of those lists! I actually keep track of the latter theme (suspected witch is not really a witch) with the shelf/tag "the crone." I only added it many years after beginning the project, so I don't have as many titles on it, as I could.

I'm glad to see both Abigail's picture book list and the Middle Grade list you referenced as I have children in both age groups. Thank you both!

I found another MG/Tween Witchy one - surprisingly, in spite of the same topic, there seems to be little overlap! :) So another great resource for you:

Yay! Thank you so much :-)
How do you feel about little wizards, Abigail?Little Whizz and the Weather Spell
If nay, I guess I could start a "Wizardy Picture Books" list to complement this one. :) In witch case, I could use help coming up with a punny title. ;)
Capn wrote: "How do you feel about little wizards, Abigail?..."While I don't intend to rename the list, I think that's OK. I think there are already a few picture books on the list that don't use the word witch, but which are appropriate. Wizards are fine, I think, as long as the book fits the other parameters.
I think I'm going to start the parallel Wizardy Picture Books list, if there isn't already a suitable list going. :) I can't stand not having any free voting quota for this list! :)Wizardy Picture Books: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/2...

Anyone can add books to this list.

I'm wondering why the entire heavily illustrated early reader series, "The Worst Witch" was deleted by a Librarian? It appears to check all the boxes. A personal vendetta against the late Jill Murphy, or another reason?
I would be keen to hear the reasoning, or to see an update to the criteria to exclude books by page count or something (this is not currently the stated criteria, and was not, originally, when the list was created by the original user).
(I'm going to add them back in until I hear a consensus rationale, in the absence of the OP!). :)
