I very much like Kelley Armstong's Women (and now Men) of the Otherworld and this newer YA offshoot of the first series.

I hadn't realized it was an offshoot. Does that mean you should read The Women (& Men) of the Otherworld first or could I just start out with this series?
Shannon, both series are set in the same universe. You can read Darkest Powers without reading Kelley's other books BUT it would be better to read the WotO series first because it gives a lot of background information. Due to the isolation of these teenagers in Darkest Powers from the rest of the supernatural community they ask a lot questions that have been addressed in the other series though I'm guessing these answers will be given in The Reckoning.Oh and there are a couple of links to Bitten and Frostbitten, the first and last books of the WotO series. I would read the Otherworld books first.
That's very good information to have. Thanks Amy! I hate it when I don't read books in the right order.
But the Women of the Otherworld is a *multi*-book series, maybe 15- 20 books. (Ok, the last novel in the series to come out is #10, plus 5 books with her short stories, plus the Men of the Otherworld, which orginally came out on her website.) (If you're thinking of reading Kelley Armstrong, check her short stories on her website to see if they are for you.) I agree with Amy, that Bitten may help, I haven't gotten around to reading Frostbitten myself yet, but the Darkest Powers series -- it's only two books so far-- are intended to stand alone. Or better yet, be the entrance for younger readers to the longer series...
I've read the first two books and thought they were great.Fast moving plot,a good selection of characters and very well written.I've bought books 3-7 and look forward to reading them.I think there is another one or two to come but sadly with the death of the author last year, the series will be no more.Very sad to see such a talented lady die so tragically.
