"Really starting to get disgusted with this. Halfway through and no practical information I can use so far. If all the lengthy overexplanations of the Wiccan Rede were left out, it would be a flimsy pamphlet. If it were titled "The Ethics of Shielding for Wiccans" I would NOT have bought it." Allan Bloom
“The humanities are like the great old Paris Flea Market where, amidst masses of junk, people with a good eye found cast away treasures...They are like a refugee camp where all the geniuses driven out of their jobs and countries by unfriendly regimes are idling.”
Allan Bloom, The Closing of the American Mind

“If you want to test cosmetics, why do it on some poor animal who hasn't done anything? They should use prisoners who have been convicted of murder or rape instead. So, rather than seeing if perfume irritates a bunny rabbit's eyes, they should throw it in Charles Manson's eyes and ask him if it hurts.”
Ellen DeGeneres, My Point... And I Do Have One

Shirley Jackson
“Our house is old, and noisy, and full. when we moved into it we had two children and about five thousand books; I expect that when we finally overflow and move out again we will have perhaps twenty children and easily half a million books; we also own assorted beds and tables and chairs and rocking horses and lamps and doll dresses and ship models and paint brushes and literally thousands of socks.”
Shirley Jackson, Life Among the Savages

G.K. Chesterton
“If you argue with a madman, it is extremely probable that you will get the worst of it; for in many ways his mind moves all the quicker for not being delayed by the things that go with good judgment.”
G.K. Chesterton

Sarah Monette
“The rats we met the size of small dogs and they watched us go by like they'd figured out that what People were for was feeding rats.”
Sarah Monette, The Virtu
