The world is changing. You are changing. Don't give up. Read the 'How to' guides. Then reread what you have written. In your early days (first five years?), your story will grow by evolution - you are learning your craft. By the time you have finished you will have written five times as much as you actually published. You will find that 'what you were originally trying to say' may be the same, but it may easily have become mellowed or more radical. Never lose sight of your targets. Make sure they are there before you start.
