Wow, I really had to mull this one over. I was very close to my mom's side of the family and her mom growing up, but I was thinking the other day about how I don't know my paternal grandmother at all even though I received just as much from her genetically. I look a lot like photos I've seen of her, and yet she's a total mystery to me. I don't even know her cultural background. An aunt told me once that she might've been Irish. She and my mom didn't get along and she died when I was twelve. A search to find identity through a lost relative might be cliché but it seems like it would make an interesting story.
