Goodreads asked Eric Auxier:

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Eric Auxier One of the most magical things for me is when a character you've created suddenly comes to life on the page, and begins to write his own story. It's really true! If you've created a complex, well rounded and quirky, believable character, that person suddenly begins speaking in their own voice!

I can't help but feel like Dr. Frankenstein and shouting, "It's alive! It's alive!!"

But, beware, that character still needs direction, or it may veer off on a tangent. The tangent may work, or it may not. The author, ultimately, must stick to the direction they see best, unless a better one presents itself.

Also, one of the greatest unexpected things about being a writer is meeting so many wonderful people around the world!
