Avery Roberson
Avery Roberson asked Jessica Day George:

I want to be an author when I grow up and I can't imagine that changing. I am going into ninth grade and am writing my first book, well my first book that I am certain I will finish. I am planning on writing a book every year for the next eight years until I graduate college and hopefully publish each one. Is this enough time to build up a name for myself? I would really like to write full time as an adult.

Jessica Day George That's great, and you should reach for that goal of writing a book a year! I don't have a crystal ball, sadly, and can't tell you if you'll be able to support yourself as a writer straight out of college, however. It took me nine years and seven books before I got a book published, and my first check (which was pretty standard) was about a fourth of what I had made as a school secretary.
