Goodreads asked Barry Ahern:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Barry Ahern The plan for Dangermaze was plotted out long before I wrote the book. I wanted to make sure it would connect the way I wanted with the earlier books. However the elements within the book are just a sum of random thoughts over time (I wish that sounded better). I have a habit where if I ever think of something that I feel is interesting, I write it down. These ideas go on to form the basis of many elements in my books. In Dangermaze, places like the world of pain, the world of honesty or the world of anger were all things I wondered how they would work if they actually existed. That’s probably one of the most enjoyable parts of writing; you get to answer your own questions. Though the downside is that what you come up has to be pretty compelling, otherwise you won’t even believe your own story.
