Goodreads asked Stephen Snyder:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Stephen Snyder I've been in practice as a sex and relationship therapist in Manhattan for the past 30 years. If you don't have at least one good book idea after all that time, then you haven't been paying attention!
I've also served for awhile on the Consumer Book Awards Committee for the Society for Sex Therapy and Research (most recently as its chairperson), during which time I got a chance to see up close what worked and didn't work in popular writing about sex. I felt there was a serious need for a consumer book about sex that wasn't boring, that talked about real feelings, and that didn't just address one particular social group.
Progressive sex books talked about vibrators and Queer Theory, conservative sex books talked about purity, and about abstinence before marriage. But no one seemed to be talking to the vast middle of the country -- who just want to have good sex in a committed relationship, usually marriage, and who don't particularly care about ideology, or about what anyone else is doing.
