Most of my stories are built around an ultimate scene that I envisioned first. The narratives provide the circumstances that build up to that scene. The ultimate scenes themselves come from "what if" scenarios that mostly spring from the mundane. Example: HOPPERS evolved from all the roadkill I see along my commute in a given week. What if the roadkill wasn't *entirely* dead and knew you were responsible for what happened?
