Goodreads asked Lena Hampton:

How do you get inspired to write?

Lena Hampton Thanks to shows like Sesame Street and Electric Company (I'm showing my age with that one) and books like the Sweet Pickles series, I learned to read at an early age. During summer breaks as a child, I would spend the entire day at the library because it was near my mother's work. Reading those stories lead me to create my own with my Barbie dolls. Eventually, I began to write those stories down. In high school, I read Pride and Prejudice and Dust Tracks on a Road (Zora Neale Hurston's autobiography) which further fueled my desire to write.
