Goodreads asked Daniel Terelmes:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Daniel Terelmes I give myself a project with self-imposed restrictions, or certain guidelines. For example: Write a story about a person in a bagel shop, who orders a bagel, sees the counter person put the bagel into the bag, but when they finally get home and open the bag, there's a cheeseburger in there instead of a bagel. And, the place does not sell cheeseburgers. Or, write a story about peer pressure and you can't use the words yes or no.

In art school, I found that if you have restrictions or certain guidelines that must be adhered to, that's when you become more creative. Your brain shifts into another gear looking for a work-around.
