As although he is an enthralling, complex character himself, he almost seems like a cross breed of a certain K....s and C...r. Taking nothing away from him, he is my favourite new literary character. Richard Nell Hi Wes - I'll answer two for one! Well, first that's gratifying to hear, I'm very pleased you've enjoyed the books. I do the same kinds of comparisons and sometimes need genre breaks. Historical fiction is my go-to, as the depth of the research usually blows my mind and puts me squarely in my place.

Ruka inspiration...that's tough. There is some from Thomas Harris' Hannibal Lecter. But he's really an amalgam of things, and I've been rather obsessed with the character for a couple years. Hopefully, when the series is finished this year, he'll be a bit purged from my soul...

I see that you're working on a prequel flintlock fantasy trilogy of novellas that will be followed by another series altogether. Do you have an order of what books you'll be working on in the coming years?
