Up there. Sorry that wasn't really a question, I just really thought you deserved my admiration. My question was 'Is Ruka ispired by two of my all time favourite characters in fantasy? As although he is an enthralling, complex character himself, he almost seems like a cross breed of a certain K....s and C...r. Taking nothing away from him, he is my favourite new literary character. Hi Wes - I'll answer two for one! Well, first that's gratifying to hear, I'm very pleased you've enjoyed the books. I do the same kinds of comparisons and sometimes need genre breaks. Historical fiction is my go-to, as the depth of the research usually blows my mind and puts me squarely in my place.
Ruka inspiration...that's tough. There is some from Thomas Harris' Hannibal Lecter. But he's really an amalgam of things, and I've been rather obsessed with the character for a couple years. Hopefully, when the series is finished this year, he'll be a bit purged from my soul...

Hi Richard, Just finished Kings of Paradise last night, and it was truly one of the best novels I've read in years. Thank you for writing it, and I can't wait for the follow-up. I see that you're working on a prequel flintlock fantasy trilogy of novellas that will be followed by another series altogether. Do you have an order of what books you'll be working on in the coming years?
