Richard Nell Yes and yes. There's actually a lot of hungry harem readers currently hoovering up books in the genre. With epic fantasy you spend a lot of time kind of begging people to read your book. Sorry 'marketing'. And I hate that. A lot. Anyway, a change is as good as a break, they say. Which sounds a little like horseshit but anything to trick myself into working.

Also I can't stop alliterating. Separate and totally unrelated problem, but I noticed it just now.
Richard Nell I hardly know, and I'm definitely too ignorant to preach. I'm mostly just filled with really annoying questions, and fiction is a way for me to ask and explore them. The fundamental question of Ash and Sand might be: what is the purpose of power? There are a great many other questions, but I think if you look at the different main characters in this story they all beg that question. Perhaps a more learned philosophy student than myself can tell you which wise scholar might best have explored this subject!
Richard Nell Hey Matt, sorry for the delay, and thanks for the kind words. I am indeed self-published. I'm not sure there's anywhere I've specifically laid out the journey, though I've certainly discussed aspects of it in various places. I'll link an interview below I did with a youtuber where I certainly discussed it a bit, and offered some advice to prospective writers. Hopefully that's at least somewhat useful.

Richard Nell At long last, I can confirm this is indeed happening. I'm working with the same narrator now, so I think we're looking at a couple months. I hope to do the third book soon after.
Richard Nell Ha. Well, I've never been much concerned with genre, but I suppose I see Ash and Sand as within the category of 'fantasy fiction in which magical events intrude on an otherwise-normal world.' Anyway, not something I worry very much about - which can make marketing a little tricky! Glad to hear you've enjoyed, thanks for the attention.
Richard Nell Hi Wes - I'll answer two for one! Well, first that's gratifying to hear, I'm very pleased you've enjoyed the books. I do the same kinds of comparisons and sometimes need genre breaks. Historical fiction is my go-to, as the depth of the research usually blows my mind and puts me squarely in my place.

Ruka inspiration...that's tough. There is some from Thomas Harris' Hannibal Lecter. But he's really an amalgam of things, and I've been rather obsessed with the character for a couple years. Hopefully, when the series is finished this year, he'll be a bit purged from my soul...
Richard Nell Hi Adam, glad to hear it. Unfortunately no - Amazon's exclusive ebook incentives are an undeniable force. So no plans to go to Kobo, etc. Paperback is an option, or as you've seen, the audiobook is available everywhere. Sorry about that.
Richard Nell So glad to hear it! Tentative plan is this:

1. Ash and Sand Series - Book two (King of Ash) to be released August, 2018. God willing and the creek don't rise, book three (and final) to be released August, 2019.

2. God-King Chronicle novellas - at least 1 more released in 2019, probably end of year.

3. God-King series - first book in latter part of 2020. Maybe another novella or two before that, with the next two books in the series with a year space.

These all might adjust slightly of course, but George Martin I am not. Any and all delays will be short, and as far as I know, I'm not going to drop dead anytime soon. Thanks for the question!
