Goodreads asked Sarah King:

How do you get inspired to write?

Sarah King Ideas come to me in dreams, or as I go about my daily life. I try to write things down as they come to me. I am not someone who writes just because they enjoy the act of putting things into words. I am not a literary author. I am a story teller. I will not even start a book unless I am 'wowed' by the idea. It has to excite me. I have to at least be able to picture it as providing entertainment to a large number of people. So at times, even though I have had lots of ideas, I don't write if those ideas are not what I deem to be 'special'. If I don't think I would love it as a reader, then I don't write it.
