Do you think our species will spiritually evolve enough to avoid planetary destruction?

Steve Seven Hi Carol, thanks for your very thoughtful question. Certainly Teilhard de Chardin thought we would evolve to a higher level. I recommend his book "The Phenomenon of Man" as a good introduction to his ideas of spiritual evolution. I am both optimistic and pessimistic. I see our present trajectory of industrial technology continuing because people will not abandon the material consumption that demands it. I do, however, think that as the environment starts to protest with increased fury at our unbridled industrialization people will wake up to the need to live more simply so that the rest of the life on the planet can simply live. It is when we have reached this understanding of our actions that we will be headed in the correct spiritual direction.
