Goodreads asked William J. Bahr:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

William J. Bahr One of my biggest blocking problems is being overwhelmed with information I've collected in researching a topic. To overcome this, I find it quite helpful to first review and become familiar with all the material. Second, I group the information into subtopics. Then, I arrange that information in whatever flow seems appropriate. After that, I try to try to do a "Michelangelo." By that I mean, pull out the essence of what I'm trying to say, much as he described in, "I saw an angel in the marble and carved until I set him free." Bottom line: cut out the excess! This sometimes means finally winding up with 1,000 words for every 10,000 I've collected in my original research. Hope this helps!
