Goodreads asked Cheri Gillard:

How do you get inspired to write?

Cheri Gillard Something triggers a concept, and I get the story idea and get excited and map out the possibilities and plot points and all that. Then the discipline must come. I can have all kinds of inspiration, but I MUST have the discipline to implement the process, or it just remains a good (hopefully) idea and a dream. As I'm writing, new inspiration comes in little spurts here and there as I crank out the words. Once I have the basic skeleton of the story, I go back and add meat and flesh (that's how I see it) and it's during the building up and the packing on substance, that more, new inspiration comes.
