Goodreads asked Cheri Gillard:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Cheri Gillard I pound my head on the desk a few times, then promise I'm going to start writing, then I just have to file off a rough edge on my fingernail, then promise again. Then I check my e-mail, then open my document and read the last line I wrote, then realize I forgot the laundry in the washer, then hit my head again against the closest surface, then stare again at that last sentence, then check my notes to see where I was going, then check facebook, then pluck a hair I just can't ignore anymore on my chin, then set the timer and tell myself, JUST TEN MINUTES, and I type the first word. Then another comes, and I type another, and before I know it, an hour has passed—most days. The other days, I lie down to think and end up falling asleep.
